Fashion Pop

Fashion is feeling rather playful right now with its bright colors, frisky patterns, and carefree pairings. Dressing doesn’t have to be so serious, so let the clothing and accessories of the season relax and have fun. For this shoot, we got to go inside AutoZone Park where Memphis sports fans get to play on a pretty regular basis. Redbirds
Baseball and Memphis 901 FC Soccer call the stadium home, and it was the perfect place for us to knock out some unconventional style. We loaded up on mismatched prints, color wheel hues, and interesting shapes for this month’s editorial. The rule of this fashion game is that there are no rules…just tons of individual style to cover your bases and score big. Get ready for some fun and light-hearted
fashion-it’s Game On.

Yellow in Bloom

Yellow is the brightest color that the human eye can see, and it also happens to be the leading color for spring. It has so many shades that there is surely one
for every person to bask in this season – sunshine, mustard, curry, saffron, daisy, daffodil, maize. Yet, for its abundance, yellow has a very checkered past. Sometimes associated with happiness, wisdom, and imagination; it is also linked with cowardice and sickliness. Negatives aside, the fashion world is banking on the sunny side up of yellow and pushing forward for all to love. Focus on the fact that yellow historically reflects a shrewd and humorous
personality…so find your shade and wear it all season long. Yellow is shining bright right now and Memphis’ boutiques are stocking up the very best
this cheerful shade has to offer

Spring 2019: Trend Report

Spring fashion coincides with Spring fever which means sunshine, patio weather, and outdoor live music. Cue in our cover girl, Marcella Simien, and everything falls into place. The well-loved Swamp Soul Princess has long been known for her ardent lyrics and velvety voice performed on many patios and other music venues around town. Marcella hails from Cajun country and is the daughter of Terrence, a Grammy Award winning musician, and Cynthia, a fashion industry veteran. Her style has always been very intentional with darker colors that reflect her incredible sultry voice; but it turns out, Marcella might have a little Spring fever herself. We thought she would be the perfect person to show off the biggest trends that fashion retailers here in Memphis have – along with her famous smoldering look translated in her own way. Enjoy the following pages of our Spring Trend Report starring Marcella in the freshest looks Spring has to offer.

Memphis Fashion Week Collaboration

This time of year in Memphis heralds the upcoming Memphis Fashion Week (April 10-13), the main fundraising effort for Memphis Fashion Design Network. Local retailers and designers come together beautifully to support the dreams and realities of fashion lovers in this region. Memphis Fashion Week would not be possible without its many supporters; and this year, Looney Ricks Kiss came in strong. The architectural firm recognizes the art of good design in any form, including fashion. We shot these looks in LRK designed buildings-Old Dominick Distillery and The Gray Canary. Also for this month’s editorial, we hired a MFW veteran model, along with a hair stylist and a make-up artist from MFW supported businesses, and we brought in guest wardrobe stylists from MFW as well. The stores featured in the next few pages show readers what to wear for Memphis Fashion Week in head-to-toe looks that make one-stop shopping another dream come true.

Playing Athletic Chic with The Pathfinders

Every February, 4Memphis stars a non-profit in our fashion
editorial as an opportunity to bring awareness to our
readers of all of the wonderful and caring outreaches in
our thriving community. This year, we are featuring the
Pathfinders of Explore Bike Share. The Pathfinders are
promising young leaders who are active in various city
and charitable roles and serve as advocates for Explore
Bike Share. We introduced them to you in our past
October issue and this time around, eight Pathfinders
graciously agreed to play fashion shoot for just one day
at the downtown warehouse where all the
coolest bikes and mopeds are stored. It
was a blustery day but we had fun with
these bright young folks and some
really fresh athletic – inspired casual
clothing with lots of sporty
stripes, cheerful colors, and
graphic details. We may have
pushed a few boundaries
with our looks, but
everyone was easy and in
the end, it was just like
riding a bike.

A Broad Look At

December is the month of abundance and assessment. We often take stock in the good and bad from the previous year and make our lists for the future. In fashion, much is the same as editors review the past trends, predict new ones, and watch what eventually rolls down the runway. One surprise trend was all the attention given to …
