LOCAL impressions
LOCAL Impressions unites some of Memphis’ most talented dance, theater, and visual artists to create an exciting showcase for the talents of Company d, a dance ensemble of individuals with Down syndrome.
In this collaboration, the concept of “impressions” centers on works of art by visual artists Paul Edelstein, Jay Etkin, Michael Maness, Ron Olson, and Jamond Bullock. Their paintings, in turn, inspired choreography and vignettes created for the show by Memphis dance and theatre artists Amanda and Jerry Gonzales, Project Motion’s Wayne Smith, Collage Dance Collective’s Yosek Prieto and Jamal White, and Mississippi Arts Commission’s Patty Carreras.
The IRIS Orchestra’s Community Initiative and Artist Fellows program has also partnered with Company d and will perform the premiere of a musical composition by Jerald Walker. The inspiration for this piece, and the choreography that goes with it, came from a new painting by Jamond Bullock.
