Dr. & Mrs. Charles Maurice Groeschell

Kathleen Elizabeth Newell and Dr. Charles (Chip) Maurice Groeschell were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on September 16, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. The ceremony was performed by Father Mike Werkhoven.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kris Shepherd and Mr. Tim Newell. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Groeschell.

“Chip and I were set up on a blind date in October 2013. We went to The Fox and Hound to watch football, but it also happened to fall on the Arkansas vs. Alabama football game. I was reluctant to go at first because I knew he was a die hard Bama fan, and I will forever ‘Call the Hogs’. Once the conversation started, it was like the game didn’t even matter anymore. The Hogs lost terribly, but Chip never once rubbed it in that his team was better that night. After the date, I knew there was something special about Chip that I never wanted to lose. We’ve had so much fun the last 3 years, and I can’t wait for many more! We are so excited for September 16, 2017.”
The bride and groom both grew up in Memphis, so the couple wanted their out of town relatives and guests to experience Memphis. Showcasing their hometown started with the invitations and was carried throughout the entire wedding day. The Hernando Desoto Bridge was incorporated in the lining of the invitation’s envelope; welcome bags included rendezvous popcorn and Dinstuhl’s candy; the bride walked down the aisle to Elvis’ “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You”; she wore blue suede shoes as her something blue; and the couple’s first dance was Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”
Musicians for the wedding ceremony were Earl Randle, pianist and cantor and the Beth Luscombe Strings. The Reception followed at The Columns with dinner and dancing. Dinner was catered by CFY and the wedding cake and grooms cake were created by The Flour Garden. The music during the cocktail hour was provided by Charvey Mac followed by the Memphis dance band, Party Planet.
The Maid of Honor was the bride’s sister, Anna Grace Newell, along with bridesmaids, Alexis Bell, Mallory Berumen, Callie Grant, Meagan Jones, Jordan Langston, Janell Niederriter, Katherine Ray, Emily Williams, and Harper Zeno. All looked stunning in their Bella Bridesmaid’s charcoal grey dresses carrying Deedra Stone Designs’ vibrant bouquets. The flowers reflected Kathleen’s choice of shades of pink and coral accented with chartreuse green.
Brian Groeschell was his brother’s best man, along with groomsmen, Tod Blanton, Chris Darby, Andrew Lichliter, Bruce Longo, Andrew McKenny, Jonathan Roney, Chris Skinner, Matthew Thompson, and Joshua Wyatt.
The whole day was captured beautifully by videographer, Message in a Bottle, live painting by artist, Bess Farris, and Rob and Deanna Photography.
